World Menopause Day – 18 October

Typically, women aged between 45-55 will experience menopause or perimenopausal symptoms. However, it is important to recognise that some women may experience menopause at different ages and some trans and non-binary people may also experience menopausal symptoms. Menopausal symptoms can include hot flushes, brain fog, mood swings, anxiety and irregular periods. These symptoms can have a significant impact on people in the workplace.

The University is marking World Menopause Awareness Day on the 18 October with a programme of virtual events to raise awareness about the menopause in the workplace. The programme will include:

  • Keynote presentation;
  • Safe Listening Spaces – 19 October 13:00
  • Launch of our training; and
  • University podcast.

The Safe Listening Spaces provide an opportunity for confidential, open discussion focused on lived experience in a safe environment. Safe Listening Spaces will be held via Teams. Sessions will not be recorded to protect the confidentially of attendees. Any key themes arising from the sessions will be anonymously shared with the working group to support future working.

Safe Listening Spaces will be facilitated by Menopause Working Group Members; Libby Barton, Equality Diversity and Inclusion Specialist; and Heather Pasero, Career Consultant.

For more information about what’s going on please see our Menopause SharePoint site.

To view the current keynote presentation line up and to book a place, please visit the Wellbeing events page.  Once registered, you will be sent a Teams invitation on 17 October. The keynote presentation will also be recorded and then made available after the event on the Menopause SharePoint site.
