Career opportunities this October

Get ahead with Careers, Employability and Student Enterprise, who are hosting a number of events and opportunities this month, to help shape your future and find the right career path for you.

If you are interested in exploring how to become a freelancer and self-employed, the Student Enterprise Team is specifically here to support you with setting up your own business and developing essential enterprise skills and knowledge. They offer opportunities such as inspirational events, workshops, competitions and funding.

It is never too early in your student journey to begin planning for life after university.

There will be two fairs taking place this semester – one with leading employers across various sectors and another dedicated to the STEM field. Explore the career opportunities available to you, including work experience vacancies, part-time jobs and graduate roles, from organisations such as Apple, Boeing and Visa and grab some freebies while you’re at it. Register for the fairs on MyCareer. 

*Quiet time access from 10.30 – 11.00am. This time is reserved for any students with accessibility accommodations. 

  • 10 Steps Business Builder Workshop
    From Tuesday 11 October

Taking place every two weeks, join this series of 10 interactive business builder workshops designed to help you upskill and network with other like-minded student entrepreneurs. In collaboration with NatWest, learn from the Local Enterprise Manager and staff from the Business School on how to develop your business in a post-COVID world.

  • 100 Big Ideas
    Ends on Sunday 16 October

Win the grand prize of £500, or be one of 100 students winning £100 each, for submitting your most creative and aspiring business idea – this could be anything from developing an innovative new product or service, an idea to tackle an issue that matters to you or reinventing an existing concept. If you’d like to take it one step further, the Student Enterprise Team can help guide you through steps to turn your idea into a reality. Get involved and submit your business idea by Sunday 16 October.

  • LinkedIn Learning webinar
    Wednesday 19 October, 1 – 2pm

LinkedIn is a powerful tool that can contribute towards discovering and enhancing your future career. This webinar provides useful tips on how to use LinkedIn and LinkedIn Learning, for free online training, to support your academic development, develop your skills and connect with the job opportunities you desire. Register your space for the webinar.

  • Student Founder Showcase
    Wednesday 26 October, 3.30 – 5pm

Hear the inspiring stories of previous student founders who have spent the summer accelerating their business ideas and learn more about the enterprise opportunities and support available at the University. Register for your free ticket to the Student Founder Showcase.

  • Sustainability Careers
    Wednesday 26 October, 1.00 – 5pm

Meet alumni who have forged successful careers in Sustainability to find out how they got their job and developed their careers, and how they contribute towards a sustainable future. Register to attend the Sustainability Careers event.
