As part of this year’s UK Disability History Month (UKDHM), celebrated from 16 November to 16 December, the UoS Disability Staff Network is collaborating with Winchester School of Art to invite staff and students to take part in an art competition.
Why take part
With this year’s theme as ‘Disability, Health and Wellbeing’, the winning artwork will be used to launch, represent and raise awareness of the University’s UKDHM celebrations, which include a range of activities and events. Successful images will also feature in other projects such as webpages, and as part of event promotion.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a .png image of artwork which reflects your understanding of disability equality and inclusion in the UK. This could include a sculpture, graphic design, photo, fabric or a sketch together with a short description of your piece – written or verbal – outlining your reasons behind it.
Express your interest to take part
Submit your expression of interest by Friday 28 October 2022 before midday via email to Dr Valentina Cardo (Associate Professor of Politics and Identity and Faculty EDI Lead) and Libby Barton (Equality Diversity and Inclusion Specialist and UoS Disability Staff Network Chair).
Please tell us why you would like to take part in this opportunity and a short art proposal explaining what you would like your art to be.
What happens next
We will let you know if you have been shortlisted on Tuesday 1 November after 14:00 by email. You will then be asked to attend a short informal briefing from 16:00–17:00 on the same day.
We will then ask you to submit your final piece by midday on Tuesday 11 November.
