It is with great sadness and deep sorrow that we inform you of the death of our former colleague and friend Professor Miltos Makris on Friday 14 October. Professor Makris was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour about a year ago. He died peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones.
Professor Makris joined the Department of Economics at the University of Southampton in 2010 and stayed until 2019. While here, he was at the centre of the intellectual and social life of the department. He will be remembered for his intellectual prowess and commitment to his subject and students, research vision, mentoring and academic initiatives that raised the visibility of and respect for the department, as well as for his kindness, sense of humour, and love for life.
He will be deeply missed.
