Last month Careers, Employability and Student Enterprise (CESE) and Widening Participation and Social Mobility (WPSM) teams hosted an event in collaboration with the Rt Hon Justine Greening and her organisation, This is Purpose. The aim of the day was to facilitate rich conversations between employers, staff and students who are underrepresented in the graduate labour market with a view to developing the new ‘Open Door’ app. The Open Door app will funnel opportunities from employers looking to employ a more diverse workforce to students who are underrepresented in the graduate labour market.
Our Vice President, Education and Student Experience, Professor Deborah Gill welcomed employers, students and staff members to the event, sharing an overview of the robust and wide-ranging offer we provide for underrepresented students and graduates.
The Opportunities Roadshow welcomed senior leaders from Purpose Coalition employers such as Adecco, Sodexo, Amazon, KPMG, Enterprise-Rent-a-Car and many more. Discussion groups were made up of staff, students and employers and focused on barriers and opportunities. Katy Gordon, Director of CESE, the Rt Hon Justine Greening, and Sandeep Bhandal, VP of Marketing from Adecco Group, fed back key observations and findings from the morning to all who attended the event.
After the event, Class Ceiling podcast hosts Heather Pasero and Daisy-Victoria Meadham caught up with Katy, Sandeep, and Gino Graziano, Director of WPSM, to reflect on the event, as well as catch up with the Rt Hon Justine Greening to talk all things levelling-up. Take a listen here:
