To mark this year’s Inter Faith Week (13-20 November), the Parkes Institute, Faith and Reflection Centre (FRC), and the SUSU faith societies have put together a programme of events and activities open to the University of Southampton community.
Inter Faith Week is a national event established in 2009 to help strengthen relations and increase understanding between people from different faith communities, as well as between people of religious and non-religious beliefs.
This year’s programme includes lectures, an Open Day, and many opportunities to share experiences and discuss faith with people from various faith communities. Here is an overview of everything going on:
Inter Faith Society Social Monday 14 November, 18:30, Faith and Reflection Centre (FRC, Building 6) The Student Christian Movement (SCM) invite all faith student societies to join them for an informal get-together with games, snacks and a chance to learn more about each other’s faith. |
Faith and Reflection Centre Open Day Tuesday 15 November, 10:00-17:00, FRC (Building 6) Meet the FRC chaplains and volunteers with free tea, coffee and cake. There will be interactive displays for students and staff to explore the idea of faith. |
Parkes Institute Inter Faith Lecture “After Belsen: Christian Encounters with Jews in the Aftermath of the Holocaust” Tuesday 15 November, 18:00 Avenue Campus Lecture Theatre C and online Led by Rob Thompson, a PhD candidate in the Department of Hebrew and Jewish Studies at University College London, this lecture will explore some of the unique stories of Christian-Jewish encounters in the wake of the Holocaust. Flora, Fauna and Faith Wednesday 16 November, 14:00-16:00, FRC (Building 6) This event is a chance for students to make a bird feeder or sign for Southampton’s Homegrown community garden, and share experiences of nature and faith. |
Faith and Mental Health – a discussion Thursday 17 November, 14:00, Building 85/2207 Muslim Faith Advisor Dr. Aiman Alzetani will give a talk on Faith and Mental Health, with The Student Hub Wellbeing Team in attendance to talk about their services. |
‘What does peace mean to you?’- a Quaker Centre Inter Faith event Thursday 17 November, 18:30, FRC (Building 6) This event will include a discussion about peace, a Q & A session, as well as tea, coffee and biscuits. Please email [email protected] if you wish to attend. |
JSOC Shabbat dinner Friday 18 November 19:30, FRC (Building 6) The Jewish Society (JSOC) invite all students to join them for their Friday night meal. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in attending. |
