Graphic image. Text reads: Student Enterprise Fund. You can apply for equity free funding up to £2,000.

This week is Global Entrepreneurship Week and to mark the occasion, we want to highlight the current opportunities available to help you set up your own business, lead a social enterprise, become a freelancer/self-employed, launch a scalable start-up or develop your enterprise and entrepreneurial skills.

As part of Careers, Employability and Student Enterprise, the Student Enterprise Team run two rounds of funding each academic year, one in the first semester and one in the second semester, to help students upskill and develop early-stage ideas and businesses.

Open to all undergraduates, postgraduate taught and postgraduate research students, you could be awarded up to £2000 in prize funding to turn your plan into a reality. The funding will assist you in the development of your business or social enterprise and can be used for various support such as investing in market research, developing a prototype (app, website, product, samples etc.), training opportunities and travel.

How to apply

  1. Book a 1-2-1 appointment with a member of the Student Enterprise Team, or attend the Funding Ask Me Anything session on Thursday 24 November from 17:00-18:00, to discuss your idea and eligibility. This will give your application the best chance of success.
  2. Complete the online application form with a video pitch (maximum length of two minutes), and submit before the deadline at midnight on Wednesday 30 November. You can apply as an individual, a partnership or group. If applying as a partnership or group, you will only need to complete one application and assign a lead applicant.
  3. Successful candidates will be invited to a panel where you will be expected to present your business/social enterprise idea. For those not invited to panel, you can still receive a small level on funding based on the strength of your application.

Apply now for the Student Enterprise Fund.
