Yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 6 December) there was a large initial response by the fire service and police to a fire alarm and reports of smoke in Building 85.
The cause of the smoke was quickly identified as an oil leak onto the manifold of a chiller. There was no fire, but a lot of smoke was drawn onto several floors of the building, requiring evacuation.
We are very grateful to our students and staff for their swift response to this incident, and for their patience while the emergency services dealt with it.
The building was vented overnight and re-opened for teaching as normal this morning.
