The University is poised to launch a new Sustainability and Resilience University Strategic Interdisciplinary Institute – and is seeking a Director to take the helm.
The new institute will be a hub of interdisciplinary research excellence that will address complex challenges associated with sustainable development and address these through innovative solutions.
Professor Mark Spearing, Vice-President (Research and Enterprise), will oversee the new institute. He said:
“The University has an impressive track record of interdisciplinary research, and strong ambitions in this area for the future. This new institute will support that expertise and vision, and will highlight and enable the University’s contribution to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.”
The post of Director, to be appointed internally, will provide strategic leadership to the institute, overseeing its budget and developing a programme of activities that will strengthen both the University’s academic output and its ability to attract research funding, supporting a coordinated response to sustainable development challenges, as well as highlighting the University’s contribution to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The role will be 0.5 FTE and will sit alongside the appointee’s substantive ERE post at the University.
The new post will report to Professor Mark Spearing and will be responsible for the posts of Institute Collaboration Manager, Institute Administrator and Sustainability Rankings Officer. The role holder will also work closely with Professor John Holloway, Associate Vice-President (Interdisciplinary Research).
