Using third-party tools to send emails

As part of our ongoing activity to protect the University from potential phishing attacks and email compromises, from Wednesday 18 January, we will be enabling a new security update on the University email domain @soton.ac.uk.

What this update means

This update will require all third-party email tools used to send emails from “@soton.ac.uk” email addresses, such as Mailchimp, to be registered as an approved sender.

Who will be impacted?

For the majority of people, this won’t cause any disruption. This will only impact individuals who use a third-party email tool to send emails from a “@soton.ac.uk” email address.

Please note this does not impact mail merges sent through a desktop email client such as Outlook, Mac Mail or Thunderbird.

What do I need to do?

iSolutions has ensured that individuals who use third-party email tools are registered as an approved sender. However, if you experience any issues from Wednesday 18 January, please contact [email protected] referencing “third-party email tool”.

What will happen if a third-party email tool isn’t registered?

If a third-party email tool isn’t registered with iSolutions and you try to send an email from an “@soton.ac.uk” email address, it will likely be marked as spam by the organisation receiving the email.

Please note – If you would like to connect with the student community, and have news, an opportunity or event you would like to share, please contact the Student Communications Team.
