This year’s Chinese (Lunar) New Year celebrations fall on Sunday 22 January and marks the beginning of spring and the Year of the Rabbit- symbolising peace and luck.

Professor Ruoling Zheng, CI Chinese Director, shares with us how the festival is celebrated:

“As the most important traditional festival in China, the Spring Festival has been celebrated for thousands of years. People travel for family reunions to share their happiness and express their gratitude and good wishes to each other. They exchange gifts and give ‘red packets’ to children. Depending on the region, typical activities to celebrate the New Year include having family feasts, making dumplings, lion dancing, temple fairs, and ancestor worship”

Everyone is invited to join in on the celebrations and learn about Chinese culture through the following events. There is no formal registration required. For more information, visit the Confucius Institute webpage or download the flyer.
