Develop your Inclusive Practice with these new workshops

The Centre for Higher Education Practice (CHEP) in partnership with the Widening Participation and Social Mobility Team invites you to join their ‘Developing Inclusive Practice’ online workshops.

These events are suitable for Academic staff as well as anyone who might work in a student-facing capacity to learn about specific areas of inclusive practice and will play a key part towards the success of the Access and Participation Plan.

Widening Participation and Social Mobility aims to enhance the student experience by designing and delivering services that meet the needs of those underrepresented in higher education.

These sessions can be booked via Staffbook. Use the search term ‘Developing inclusive practice’.

Wednesday 15 February: Supporting Black and minoritized students

Explore the lived experiences of Black and minoritized students, within the context of Southampton, in order to provide a better understanding of the barriers to success and the various actions staff can take in helping to break those barriers.

This session will utilise case studies and lessons from the Awarding Gap Project.

Wednesday 1 March: Supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds

Listen to a brief introduction to the work of Ignite Your Success and the students supported by the programme, then explore what it means to be from a disadvantaged background, how disadvantage is determined by the University, and how this might present barriers to success in higher education.

Wednesday 15 March: Engaging and supporting mature students (learners aged 21+)

Become more aware and understanding of our undergraduate mature student population (those aged 21+ when they commence their course) and discuss how we can ensure our practices are inclusive, accessible and supportive for students of all ages.

Wednesday 29 March: Supporting care experienced and estranged students

Find out about our undergraduate care experienced and estranged student population and join the discussion on how you can ensure your practices are inclusive, accessible, and supportive for students of all backgrounds.
