Safety and security reminders

Whilst incidents of crime affecting personal safety are rare in our community, there have been a number of unrelated occurrences recently. As a precaution, we have increased our on-site security patrols of campus grounds, with a focus on the fringe parts of campus, to aid the safety and wellbeing of our community.

Please find below a reminder of our advice on how to keep yourself and your belongings safe while out and about on campus and in the local community.

Secure your possessions
Make sure that your cash, mobile phone and personal items are not on display. If you are carrying a bag or rucksack, make sure it is closed securely.

Be alert
If you can, avoid using headphones while walking, as this will make it harder to hear if you are approached by a person or car.

Be discreet
Be discreet when using your mobile phone in public and minimise using it in public spaces wherever possible.

Never take risks
If you ever feel threatened, uncomfortable, or at risk, never risk your personal safety. Leave your possessions, seek a place of safety (such as a shop or anywhere where there are other people), and tell someone what is happening.

Remember to always call 999 in an emergency or, if you are on campus or in halls, you can contact the University Security Team at 023 8059 3311.
