Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) – read our recent submission

The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) is a national exercise that all higher education institutions take part in every four years to showcase excellence in teaching, learning and student outcomes.

In line with the timeline set by the Office for Students, the University recently made its submission to the 2022-23 TEF. The submission is made up of two parts – an institutional submission produced by the University and another produced by our Students’ Union, SUSU.

Watch our Vice-President (Education and Student Experience) introduce the TEF in the following two minute video – you can also watch this on YouTube.

Professor Deborah Gill, Vice-President for Education and Student Experience, comments:

It was a privilege to complete our TEF document. It tells the story of our strengths and what makes Southampton a truly unique place to be a student. It is a joyful read.

“I would like to say thank you to so many people who were involved in putting this document together and all those colleagues, working inside and outside the classroom, who make this such a great place to be a student and who help our students on their journeys to successful futures.”

Professor Mark E. Smith, Vice-Chancellor, comments:

“Our TEF submission describes the excellence in our teaching and student experience at Southampton in a powerful way. Our success in developing the partnership between staff and students shines through and the metrics show a strong and still strengthening performance in delivering a fantastic education. Thank you to everyone involved.”

Emily Bastable, VP Education and Democracy at SUSU, comments:

“The Student Submission was a large undertaking by myself, and the Representation and Insight Team at the University of Southampton Students’ Union (SUSU).

“We want to thank the University for being very supportive and cooperative, allowing us to create an insightful and independent submission. The 10-page self-assessment is an honest and evidence-based reflection of the student experience at the University of Southampton, featuring the student voice from a range of programmes and campuses. We want to thank the students who gave their time to speak to us about their experiences.

“We look forward to working with the University on addressing the areas of improvement we raised as part of this report.”
