From humble beginnings Environmental Science in the School of Geography and Environmental Science, has expanded to run Undergraduate, Masters and Doctoral degrees, and carried out research that has helped make the world a better place.
On Friday 21 April, the ES team has invited well-known environmentalist Megan McCubbin; star alumni, Professor Baroness Kathy Willis, CBE (Oxford University); Professor Jane Stout (Trinity Dublin), along with past and present students, to celebrate what they have achieved together and to look forward to the next 50 years.
Over the month of April, we’ll be looking ahead to that birthday milestone with three blogs written by our ES lecturers and researchers:
- Sustainability and Higher Education by Simon Kemp
- My Journey: Five decades as an Environmental Scientist by Professor Ian Williams
- Cleaning up microplastic pollution in the River Itchen by Malcolm Hudson
In the May edition of Staff Matters we’ll bring you a full report of the celebrations with interviews with some of the key speakers.
You can also join in on Twitter by sharing your best #EnvSci50TREEHUGGER photo to help us celebrate 50 years of Environmental Science at Southampton!
