University laptops not connecting to the internet – Update 17:40 18 April

Since this morning (18 April 2023), several hundred colleagues have been experiencing issues connecting via Wi-Fi on their work laptops.

Highfield Campus central area and library

The issue was caused by a Microsoft software update overnight and is primarily affecting colleagues who are using Windows 10 laptops which were built over two years ago.

Fixing the issue – What do I need to do?

iSolutions have been working hard to find a solution and have developed the following instructions to fix laptops with this issue:

  • In the first instance, even if you have already tried, please try connecting your laptop to your router via an ethernet cable instead of using Wi-Fi and reboot your laptop. This has provided a permanent fix for many colleagues, but not all.
  • If you are still experiencing issues connecting to the Wi-Fi or network, please follow this knowledge base article step by step guide.
  • If you cannot connect to the Wi-Fi after completing the steps in the knowledge base article, please visit one of our Tech Hubs at Hartley Library on Highfield campus, or at the Sir James Matthews building at the City Centre campus.
  • If you’re unable to get to campus, please contact the ServiceLine team by raising a ticket on our self-service portal.

Please share the information contained in this update with any affected colleagues who may currently have limited access to University systems.

Thank you to all those affected for your patience and to the teams for working to resolve this issue.
