Eid Mubarak to all students celebrating! Eid meaning festival and Mubarak meaning blessed.
After a month of diligent fasting and praying during the month of Ramadan, Muslims around the world will be celebrating the end of Ramadan with Eid al-Fitr celebrations. Eid al-Fitr is one of two major festivals celebrated by Muslims each year, the other being Eid al-Adha, which falls two months after Eid al-Fitr at the end of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
Eid al-Fitr begins when the first sight of the new moon is seen, and it has been confirmed today that it will take place tomorrow on Friday 21 April 2023. Celebrations begin with audible glorification and praise of Allah (God), then a communal congregational prayer followed by a Khutbah (sermon). Once Eid prayers are finished, Muslims will often visit their relatives and friends, eat and exchange gifts – it is a day of thanking God and showing happiness and joy.
