  • Submitting assessments online
Read the submission instructions and guidance provided carefully, noting details such as the submission portal and when it will be available to use. Wherever possible, we recommend leaving a minimum of 30 minutes for uploading assessments to allow time in case of any issues.
  • If you have technical issues uploading files or during your assessment
Take screenshots or photos of the error notices on your screen. Make sure they clearly show the time, internet provider and date. Speak to The Student Hub as soon as possible. You may be able to make a Special Considerations request to let the University know.
  • Accessing online assessments
ExamStart is an entry portal to a computer aided assessment, whether you are completing a computer-aided assessment or completing your exam on a PC rather than by hand. Preview how the software works via the following links:  – Word exam preview  – Perception exam preview
  • Blackboard
Read this guide if you are submitting work online or have online assessments on Blackboard with helpful tips and guidance to help you prepare.
  • Timed assessments
You cannot be granted a deadline extension for a timed assessment. Late penalties (as applied on coursework) are not available if you fail to submit by the deadline: you will receive a mark of zero, just as you would if you failed to attend an exam.
  • Unauthorised online help
External companies may approach you online, offering essay writing or other academic skills services under the guise of providing proof-reading, note-taking, or ‘homework help’ services. Do not be tempted to take up such services or seek unauthorised help as this may be treated as cheating or external authorship/assistance. Avoid the need to take ‘short cuts’ by careful planning and good time management. Take advantage of the academic support available to you via the Academic Skills Service and use resources such as the assignment planner.
  • ChatGPT and artificial intelligence tools
Unless specifically authorised as part of your assessment guidance, you are not permitted to submit content produced by these platforms. Presenting such content in any form as your own original work would breach our academic integrity regulations. Visit the Knowledge Base for general guidance about artificial intelligence tools in relation to academic work.
