On 1 June a new appraisal window will open for all staff. All staff should have an appraisal between 1 June and 15 September and record their objectives for the year ahead. As part of the changes to the appraisal process, the appraisal year (1 August to 31 July) will be the same for staff all Levels. If you have not done so, please read the reminder of what is changing.
What do I need to do?
Appraisals are an important part of your professional development and offer an opportunity to dedicate time to an open conversation with your line manager about your career aspirations, your strengths, the challenges you may have faced and to agree your objectives for the year ahead.
- Ensure your appraisal meeting is set up with plenty of notice to allow both you and your line manager ample time to prepare for your appraisal conversation.
- Complete the self-assessment section of the appraisal form in advance and notify your manager once you have.
- Take advantage of the appraisee e-learning if you are uncertain of the process.
- If you are a member of staff at Level 4-7 you will select one of the new contribution descriptors to summarise your overall performance. You no longer need to do this for each objective.
- Consider potential objectives for the year ahead.
If you have not already done so, you can review the changes that impact you on the Appraisal Guidance SharePoint where you will find detailed information and to access resources – also see this helpful video for an overview.
For Staff at Levels 1-3
During this year’s appraisal window, you will:
- Complete the paper based PPDR to document your progress for your past appraisal year (the reflecting back part of the process).
- Use the online form on MyHR to record your objectives for the period 1 August 2023 to 31 July 2024.
If you have not used the online form before, a moving from PPDR to appraisal e-learning is available to support you with this.
At next year’s appraisal you will use the online form and the contribution descriptors to summarise your overall performance.
