Southampton Geospatial Initiative are hosting an event on the use of AI and geospatial data on Monday 22 May, 10:30-16:00. Geospatial data is everywhere and AI is increasingly being used to automate existing processes, create new geospatial products, and inform decision making. We are delighted to be hosting an event to explore what various stakeholders who create, analyse and use geospatial data see future training needs in light of advancements in modern AI and machine learning. The event will be run both in-person in Building 44 (room 1057) and online, and registration is essential.
The event will be a great opportunity to discuss the requirements that industry, NGOs and charities working with geospatial data have with respect to finding skilled people that can process geospatial data with AI and ML technologies. A number of Southampton academics will be on hand to discuss potential ideas for training, collaboration and research. The format of the day is broadly focussed around multi-way dialogue, and includes a mixture of short talks and discussion sessions. It includes a panel session with a number of guests looking at what the current skills gaps are, and how we should try to fill them. We’re excited to confirm that Nigel Clifford from the Geospatial Commission will chair the panel, and that panellists will include Iris Kramer, a former Southampton student and founder of ArchAI.
