The Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences (FELS) and Mentor Mums are running two events looking to support parents working at the University. The events are open to all University staff, and will be held in B58 1067 on Highfield Campus.
Wednesday 24 May, 10:30 – 11:45 – Panel Debate
Join us for a debate with panelists from academia and beyond, to discuss the hurdles academics and university staff face as they look to return to work after becoming parents. We’ll explore the challenges in the system as it stands, and what we can do – as individuals and institutions – to make things more inclusive for working parents.
Note: this is not just for parents – but a chance for colleagues at all stages and all levels to join the conversation and make universities more parent-friendly.
Wednesday 24 May, 12:30 – 14:45 – Parent Workshop
A workshop for parents straddling work and university life.
- Group discussion on life for working parents
- Small group work on topics including rebuilding confidence, boundary setting, goal setting and more
- Exploring emotions and life-events through journaling and poetry
- The opportunity to find a career specific mentor though Mentor Mums
- Networking with other parents at Southampton University
These events are organised by Judith Lock ([email protected]) from the School of Biological Sciences and Moira MacLean from the School of Ocean and Earth Sciences ([email protected]).
