Professional Services leadership team update

A number of appointments and changes within the Professional Services leadership team are being announced today.

Mary Hurst has been confirmed permanently to the role of Director of Faculty Operations, after an initial one year period of tenure. She will continue her focus on management of the faculty ADoFOs, developing the Faculty Operating Service across the University in partnership with professional service directors and Faculty and School leaders, and supporting the Vice-President Operations with delivery of the Organisational Excellence Strategic Plan. Meanwhile, William Edwards has been confirmed permanently to the role of Associate Director of Faculty Operations (ADoFO) in the Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences (FELS).

Two new appointments have been made within RIS (Research & Innovation Services) to underpin secure delivery of our ambitious research and enterprise strategic plans, and strengthen the expert resource available to support our research and enterprise community. Doug Akins, formerly Head of Research Contracts within RIS, has been appointed to the role of Director of Research Contracts and Compliance, and Mylene Ployaert, currently Head of Research Funding Development has been appointed to the role of Director of Research Strategy and Funding.  This will also draw together teams in RIS in a more comprehensive structure. Doug and Mylene will report to Lorna Colquhoun Executive Director of RIS.

Cathy Day, our Executive Director Risk, Safety & Resilience, has announced she is retiring in July after more than seven years with the University. Following her retirement, Kieron Broadhead, Deputy Vice-President (Operations) will assume responsibility for Health, Safety & Risk, and discuss future arrangements with colleagues.

Wendy Appleby, Vice-President (Operations), commented: “These appointments will all play a direct role in ensuring successful delivery of our triple-helix University Strategy, and our Organisational Excellence strategic plan.

“I would also like to thank Cathy for her tremendous commitment and contribution to the University. She has brought significant rigour and professionalism to an area of critical importance to the University, and played a key role in our handling of the COVID pandemic. We are very grateful to her and we wish her every happiness in her retirement.”
