The Class Ceiling: new photography exhibition – get involved

If you identify as working class or originate from a working-class background, you could be part of a brand-new photography exhibition, The Class Ceiling.

The exhibition, which will be held at the internationally renowned John Hansard Gallery in November, aims to showcase the working-class experiences as lived by our staff and student community.

Tell us your story
The Social Mobility Network are looking for existing or new photographs that capture and tell your working-class story, whether it is a family setting, work, education, hobbies, travel, or anything that is part of your lived experience as a working-class person.

Tell us your working-class story behind the photo:

  • Who took it?
  • Where was it taken?
  • When was it taken?
  • If there are people in it, who are they?
  • What does this photograph mean to you?

How to take part
If you want to join us on the social mobility centre stage and have your photo showcased at the exhibition in November, please complete this photo submission form by Saturday 26 August 2023.

Please note, your image should be at least 300 dpi (dots per inch) as the selected photos will be printed at A3 size.

What happens next
Our judges, Leader of the City Council, Satvir Kaur and University of Southampton Vice President for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Social Justice, Pascal Matthias will select 20 images to be part of the exhibition. If you are successful, we will contact you after the 26 August deadline.
