Take part in an evaluation study to develop training and support for doctoral supervisors

The Centre for Higher Education (CHEP) and the Doctoral College are seeking doctoral supervisors (both formal and informal*) at the University to participate in a short survey and/or focus group study (ergo ref. 82487) taking place between July and September 2023.

Text "Evaluation study to develop training and support for supervisors. Doctoral supervisors required. July-September 2023."

The aims of this study are to understand:

  • What doctoral supervisors need to support doctoral students
  • What would make a training programme for doctoral supervisors’ best practice
  • How much support are supervisors receiving from their faculties already
  • Are doctoral supervisors aware of and engaging with existing resources
  • Whether doctoral supervisors feel confident about their role and responsibility

The online survey is already open and will be accessible for completion throughout July and August. The focus groups will be conducted in September, although you can register your interest to take part now.

*Defined in this context as members of staff who are supporting doctoral students with their doctoral project in any respect, which may include, but is not limited to methodology, statistics, subject/topic related, but who are not one of the named supervisors on the project.

To find out more about the study, take part in the survey and/or register an interest in taking part in the focus group/s, please go to the study information page.
