There are six weeks left in the appraisal conversation window which remains open for all staff until 15 September 2023.

Appraisals are changing for all staff

Planning your appraisal(s)

For Levels 1-3

Staff at level 1-3 should continue to plan and hold their PPDR discussions using their locally agreed timelines, these discussions should focus on performance and development up to 31 July 2023. Objectives for the period 01 August 2023 to 31 July 2024 should be recorded for the first time using the online form. All PPDR discussions must have taken place before the window closes on 15 September 2023.

For Levels 4-7

The appraisal discussion for staff at level 4-7 must have taken place and the online appraisal form fully completed by 15 September 2023. Please arrange your appraisal meeting(s) now if you haven’t already done so to allow time to for both the appraiser and appraisee to prepare.

Read appraisal guidance.

Second Line Reviewer Consistency Checks

Second Line Reviewers will have responsibility for quality assuring the Level 4-7 appraiser’s assessment of the appraisee, to ensure contribution descriptors are awarded fairly. Second line reviewers must:

  • Read the appraisal overall contribution notes and proposed contribution descriptors.
  • Enter the confirmed contribution descriptor.
  • Add any additional comments you wish to make.
  • Approve the form using the ‘Authorise’ button once all the above have been completed.

Second Line Reviewers will usually be the appraiser’s Line Manager; however, this may vary depending on individual circumstances. Second Line Reviewers must carry out the consistency check with an awareness of any potential biases, and should have completed unconscious bias training.

All consistency checks must be completed by the 15 October 2023.
