Use of RAAC – update 22 September

Following a second phase survey of the use of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) in university-owned buildings, we will be temporarily closing the foyer of Building 6, the Nuffield Theatre, from 18:00 today, Friday 22 September, while more intrusive surveys of the area are carried out. Nuffield Theatre has previously been identified for its use of RAAC, and has been monitored regularly.

The foyer is currently used to access a number of spaces, including the Faith and Reflection Centre, lecture theatres and music practice rooms, and that access will need to be temporarily suspended. We will be providing more information on alternative spaces for activities due to be held in these rooms to all affected colleagues and students in due course. Faith and Reflection Welcome Week activities have been relocated into alternative spaces where possible. The emergency exit routes of Building 4 will not be affected.

Safety is always our priority, and we will re-open these spaces as soon as we can. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
