What is Consultancydefinition

Why is the University making changes to the Consultancy Guidelines and how does this relate to the Consultancy Policy?

The Consultancy Policy has been reviewed periodically since publication in 2012 and was supplemented in 2020 with the issue of Consultancy Guidelines.

At the request of the Deans Council the Consultancy Policy is being updated by a Consultancy Policy Working Group (CPWG). Phase 1 has been to review and update the Consultancy Guidelines which supplement the Consultancy Policy. Phase 2 will update the Consultancy Policy.

Who will be affected by these changes?

Changes to the guidelines are focused on “non-core consultancy” activity conducted by eligible staff under the existing 30-day /15-day rule set out in the Consultancy Policy.

Non-core consultancy does not include:

  • Private consultancy undertaken with no use of University resources but approved by Head of School.
  • Core consultancy eg Enterprise Unit or routine activity with workload allocation.
  • Research activity.
  • Consultancy activity deemed to be core-consultancy by the relevant Head of School.

The open consultation session taking place on Teams at 13:00 on 3 October will discuss the proposed changes in more detail and include a Q&A.

Please book via StaffBook – Login (soton.ac.uk).
