University of Southampton named in world top 100

The University of Southampton is celebrating climbing eleven places to 97th position globally in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, our first time in the top 100 in this league table in over ten years.

THE World University Rankings 2024

The THE World University Rankings are regarded as one of the world’s leading higher education measurements, scoring nearly 2,000 institutions on their teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. This latest ranking also places us at 11th in the UK.

Our Vice-Chancellor Professor Mark E. Smith said:

“Our improvement to a top 100 ranking is an indication of our University’s outstanding quality, research excellence, and exceptional teaching. It is a real mark of quality that validates our hard work to empower our students who come here from across the world and shape our society for the better. It is a testament to the quality, dedication and hard work of colleagues across the University, for which I am very grateful.”

This success builds upon other excellent league table results published this year, including Southampton being ranked within the top 20 UK universities in the Guardian, Times, and Complete University Guide league tables, adding further recognition that Southampton is one of the best places to study both in the UK and globally.
