Our community stands against all forms of harassment, and one way that we ask you to stand with us is by taking the opportunity to gain a healthy and positive understanding of consent.
Complete the training
All new and returning students should complete the compulsory consent training course on Blackboard – Consent matters: Training for students (2023-24).
Taking this module will equip you with the knowledge to give and gain consent, healthily and respectfully. It should take no longer than fifteen minutes, and you’ll have the chance to win a £100 IKEA voucher once complete, unless you choose to opt out of the monthly prize draw.
Consent matters
Talking about the new module, Helen Rowland, Director of Student Support, said: “In our commitment to creating an environment where everyone feels respected, valued, and safe, we have co-created a comprehensive consent module for all students.
“Led by Aycha Ates-di Adamo (VP Welfare and Community for the 2022-23 academic year), the development of this module has been a collaboration between the University, SUSU and our student community. This included members of our SUSU clubs and societies who actively participated in the content creation to ensure it resonates and is relevant to our students.
“Consent matters, and this module is a crucial step towards creating an environment where everyone feels respected, valued, and safe, and it offers valuable insights and practical information on consent, relationships, and boundaries.”
How you can help others
You may also wish to complete the Active Bystander training this semester – designed to help you challenge inappropriate behaviours where it’s safe to do so. View the My Southampton app student events calendar to register for a session.
Support available to you
We encourage anyone who has ever experienced any form of harassment to speak out by using our Report and Support tool. Visit the Student Safety Site for more information about available support inside and outside of the University.
