- 100 Big Ideas – 100 students will get the chance to win £100 each, and a grand prize winner to receive £500, for coming up with a business idea that has potential. Whether it’s a new product or service, a solution to a problem you’ve encountered, or a newfound way to tackle an issue that matters to you, submit your Big Idea by Sunday 15 October to get a feel for entrepreneurship.
- Student Innovation Projects – Designed for you to gain industry experience, working between four to six hours per week for just four weeks, Student Innovation Projects allow you to work on a real-life business issue and develop the transferable skills you will need in your future professions. You can find a variety of Student Innovation Projects advertised on MyCareer throughout October – be quick to apply as applications are only open for two weeks.
- UoS internships – With local businesses and charities whom the University have long-lasting relationships with, UoS internships bring you the very best (and paid), short-term work opportunities all year round. All roles are reviewed by the University to ensure they offer project-based and meaningful experience that increase your employability and give you an insight into potential career paths. Black Tech Fest 23
From Tuesday 10 to Thursday 12 October The UK’s leading technology event, ran across 3-days in person and online, brings together leaders, creators and change makers to celebrate Black contributions to the tech industry with expert speakers, interactive workshops and networking opportunities for Black talent. |
Prepare for the Fair
Thursday 12 October, 18.00-19.00, Online Prepare ahead for the Careers Fairs this month and equip yourself with the essential skills and knowledge on how to navigate, network, and make the most of the fairs talking to a number of employers in a limited space of time. |
Autumn Careers Fairs
Monday 16 October (All sectors) and Tuesday 17 October (STEM-specific), 11.30-15.30, Garden Court, Highfield Campus. From 10:30-11:30, the Fairs will be open to students with accessibility requirements. Discover and meet a diverse range of employers offering part-time work, internships, placements, and graduate schemes. With over 100 global, national and local recruiters keen to recruit UoS students, you will have the chance to network and learn more about the companies; including Global Maritime, Aztec, AWE, Visa, Estee Lauder, Civil Service Fast Stream, Shanghai Meiji, and more. |
Student Founder Showcase
Wednesday 25 October, 15:15-17:00, Turner Sims Highfield Campus Hear from current students, who received £3,000 in funding from the University to explore and accelerate their business ideas for 12 weeks over the summer, about their progress and achievements. At this event, you will learn about the extensive support available at the University if you want to start your own business and how to get involved. Winners of the 100 Big Ideas competition will also be announced. |
