Join us for the launch of the University’s new interdisciplinary Sustainability and Resilience Institute (SRI) on Wednesday 1 November from 14:45 to 16:45 in Centenary Building (100) Room 3023, opened by our President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Mark E. Smith.
Register to attend the free launch event here. (Please note due to popular demand there are only online places available at the moment, but you are welcome to join a wait list to join the session in-person)
Developed to initiate a step change in our sustainability activities, the SRI will lead collaborations to provide ‘sustainability and resilience’ solutions to the most challenging problems facing our society and planet through the University of Southampton’s triple helix approach.
The SRI aims to increase and facilitate interdisciplinary funding bids on sustainability and resilience, develop engagement with policy makers, engage with students, and increase involvement with industry in these research and enterprise areas. At the event, you will learn more about the vision for the SRI and how we will work with colleagues from across the university and collaborate with external partners.
This event is for colleagues across the university, with a launch event specifically for student involvement with the Institute in the new year. At this event, we will address the benefits of becoming an SRI member, how to apply for SRI funding, and how you can engage with us. You will then have the opportunity to contribute feedback and ideas to a panel made up of the SRI team.
Professor Craig Hutton is the SRI Director: “Sustainability and the development of a resilient society is not a preordained state but something we agree on across society here and globally. So, we need people working on all disciplines from culture and eradicating poverty to the latest advances in decarbonisation technology and climate physics to come together to achieve change, the SRI will be a flagship for that here at the University of Southampton.”
All members of the University community are welcome to attend, either in person or Teams – although we’d love to see you in person if possible as sustainability is all about people and connections!
If you have any questions or would like to contact the SRI team ahead of the launch, please email [email protected]
