Fostering webinar for University staff: Could you change a child’s life by sharing yours?

As part of National Care Leaver’s Week, taking place from 25 October to 1 November, Widening Participation and Social Mobility (WPSM) are co-ordinating a number of activities to celebrate Care Leavers and raise awareness of the challenges faced in the care system.

There are currently 510 children in care in Southampton, with just over half having to be placed outside the city due to a lack of Fostering placements. WPSM have teamed up with the Parent & Carer Network and colleagues at Southampton City Council (SCC) to host a webinar about Fostering aimed at UoS staff.

The City of Southampton needs more wonderful people to become Foster Carers to support our Children Looked After and Young People. If you have compassion and patience, along with a spare bedroom and some childcare experience, Fostering with Southampton City Council could be in your future.

Supported by WPSM and the Parent & Carer Network, the Fostering Team at SCC will be talking all about Fostering and discussing the lesser-known opportunities that can work for busier schedules.

They will discuss the assessment process and break down some of myths to give you the information you need to consider if Fostering is right for you. You’ll also get the chance to hear real life experience from two current Foster Carers and ask them questions about the day to day experience of Fostering.

Come along to our Webinar on 30 October 2023 at 12:30 to learn more about Fostering and how to get involved. Sign up at https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=-XhTSvQpPk2-iWadA62p2Fjt0rLLEx5ElJTAIjlDM3ZUQlZCSlg1NjlMOTFTVEtWUkxBQkNOTjM1UC4u
