The Centre for the South and the Centre for English Identity and Politics invite you to hear ‘Devolution and levelling-up – lessons from the north of England’, which will be hosted on Wednesday 8 November at 17:30 in B100/4013, Highfield Campus. Tea and coffee will be served from 17:00.
The Northern Powerhouse Partnership is a network of over 300 business partners from across the north of England, including international companies and SMEs and covering many different sectors. The Partnership aims to promote investment in the northern region.
As Chief Executive of the Partnership, Henri Murison has seen at first hand the introduction of devolution deals, elected mayors and the development of combined local authorities across the region. He has been a close observer of the at times fraught relationship with central government, not least over HS2.
With devolution discussions for the central South temporarily paused, this is a good opportunity to hear what lessons we might learn from northern England in shaping any future proposals.
The event will also introduce the Centre for the South, a new initiative by the University of Southampton to enhance our efforts to bring research excellence to bear on regional challenges.
