Drawing upon the tradition of ‘theatre-in-education’, Denise Baden, Professor of Sustainable Business, wrote a dramatic monologue ‘Murder in the Citizens’ Jury’ to raise awareness of citizens’ assemblies.
This is being performed as part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science by multi-award-winning actor Jack Klaff (Star Wars and others) on Saturday 11 November at 15:00 at Highfield Campus, University of Southampton. It explores the ethical dilemma of the Director of Public Prosecutions who must decide whether to prosecute the murder. If he does so, he will alienate his family, and it will mean the end for citizens’ assemblies – a form of direct democracy which many believe could be the silver bullet to avert a climate crisis.
The event lasts an hour and includes Q&A afterwards. It’s free to attend but registration is required: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/murder-in-the-citizens-jury-a-25-minute-dramatic-monologue-with-qa-tickets-711253427147?aff=oddtdtcreator
