A message from Kieron Broadhead, Senior Executive Director (Student Experience)

The arrival of winter adds various pressures to student life every year – the longer nights and colder weather, money pressures like heightened bill prices, on top of which come various increasing numbers of deadlines, assignments, and pieces of coursework. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you all to look after yourselves, both your mental health and your wider wellbeing – and reaching out for support is never a sign of weakness, so please do not hesitate to do so if you ever need it.

We have a range of support and resources available to you through both the University and our Students’ Union. The Student Hub and our wellbeing team are here to support you 24/7 365 days a year, with any questions or concerns you might have about areas of your student life. Our friendly advisors and specialist staff understand the difficulties of student life and are trained to help you inside and outside of your studies. Whether you are concerned about your mental health, going through a difficult time, or simply need a chat, please contact us.

Also, don’t forget to take simple steps to keep yourself well. Make time to be active, spend time with other people, and get outside during the day for some fresh air.

There are many events happening on our campuses over the next few weeks before the winter break, including the Winter Festival with the festive lights switch-on. This is a special occasion for our entire community to come together, so do join in on Tuesday 28 November

Look after yourselves and those around you, and remember, we are always here to help.
