Trusted Research is a UK-wide campaign to raise awareness of the types of risks that academia and industry can encounter during their research. It is essential that we work together as a University community to ensure we play our part in mitigating these risks and protecting the UK’s intellectual property, sensitive research, people and infrastructure from potential theft, manipulation and exploitation, including as a result of interference.
You are invited to an online Open Forum, hosted by Professor Mark Spearing (Vice-President Research and Enterprise), to learn more about Trusted Research and how you can ensure your work is not at risk. The Open Forum is on Tuesday 12 December 14:00-15:00 and you can register for this event online.
What is changing?
The University is reviewing its formal and informal research collaborations in accordance with the UK government’s updated guidance and the Trusted Research initiative. You may have noticed some of these steps regarding international research visitors being hosted, co-authorship on publications arising from informal collaborations, and/or registering your informal collaborations with partners in countries that are subject to UK embargoes.
Trusted Research is an obligation and is particularly relevant to researchers in STEM subjects, dual-use technologies, emerging technologies, personally identifiable data and commercially sensitive research areas, but we would encourage all colleagues to familiarise themselves with this information, including if you are working in an administrative, professional service or technician role supporting research activity.
How to get support
Research Integrity and Compliance (RICO) in RIS can assist with export control queries/applications and in determining if your activity falls within NSI Act or is subject to UK Sanctions. Send any queries directly to [email protected]
