Tuesday 5 December is International Volunteer Day. On behalf of our students and staff, the Office of Development and Alumni Relations (ODAR) extends a heartfelt thank you to our amazing alumni and supporter volunteers, who this calendar year, gave more than 17,000 hours of their time to support our University community.
Alumni and supporter volunteers have had a huge impact on our University this year, giving their time and expertise to support a wide range of priorities including student recruitment, graduate employability, widening participation, philanthropy, and enhancing the student experience.
They have been involved in a wide range of activities, from speaking to students, giving guest lectures, providing internships and work experience, mentoring, sitting on career panels, community fundraising, speaking on podcasts, and much more!
The Ignite Programme is just one example of where alumni and supporter volunteers have made a big difference to our students by sharing their experiences during skills workshops:
“On behalf of the Ignite Your Success programme, a massive thank you to our wonderful alumni for volunteering their time towards Ignite workshops. Having alumni who have been in a similar position to our students has a true impact and goes a long way in illustrating to Ignite students the career paths they can take. Alumni have also been instrumental in developing Ignite students’ soft skills, such as networking, confidence, and communication.” Savanna Cutts, Student Inclusion Manager – Ignite Your Success – Widening Participation & Student Mobility
