Primary data centre closure 27 December – 1 January

During the upcoming winter closure period, there will be essential electrical testing work at the University data centre to ensure the safety of our students, staff and systems. This work requires a complete shutdown of some of our systems for a short period, and there may be some changes to building and halls of residence access during this time.

 How will this affect you?

  • The majority of our systems will be offline between 07:00 Wednesday 27 December 2023 to 18:00 Monday 1 January 2024.
  • All our cloud-based systems, such as Teams, email, OneDrive and SharePoint, will remain operational throughout the period, as will Wi-Fi.
  • You can see a complete list of the systems that will be available and some FAQs for Students on the dedicated SharePoint. If a system is not on this list, please assume it will not be available from 07:00 Wednesday 27 December to 18:00 Monday 1 January.

If you live in university halls of residence

Please let us know if you intend to leave halls for the winter break or if you will be staying over the winter break, by completing the form here.  The shutdown will affect some building access across halls sites, so it is important you complete this form.

You will be able to access your block, flat and room, but we are putting additional measures in place, as a backup, if you lose your key fob during this period.

If you have any questions, please contact The Student Hub via phone, email, and 24/7 online chat.
