Are you interested in learning a new skill in the new year? We have extended the call-out for those interested in being part of the third cohort for Poetic Science to 10:00 on Friday 5 January 2024.
In partnership with John Hansard Gallery, the Public Engagement with Research unit (PERu), and the Southampton Institute for Arts and Humanities, the Environment and Sustainability Research Group invites research scientists, post-doctoral researchers and postgraduate students working across a range of science disciplines and in multidisciplinary contexts to take part in a pilot programme bringing together science and poetry.
With the aim of nurturing an environment of multi-disciplinarity collaboration and connectivity, Poetic Science is seeking expressions of interest from community-based researchers and/or citizen scientists and University postgraduate students, post-docs and researchers in the sciences. Working with renowned creative writer, Dr Helen Eastman, participants will develop skills in creative writing and communication techniques based on their areas of scientific interest through poetry.
“Poetic Science was an extremely fun and refreshing experience. I thoroughly enjoyed
finding ways to express my thoughts and passion for my science using creative language. Since then, I have used poetry in my public engagement and even in outreach classes that I ran with school students before the summer holidays. I would do this again, 100%!” (Poetic Scientist)
Facilitated by acclaimed creative writer, Dr Helen Eastman, participants will develop their skills
in creative engagement practice, poetry writing and performance through a series of early evening online workshops on the 9 and 23 February and 8, 14, and 15 March, from 17:00-19:00.
Completed works will be showcased at a live special Poetic Science Takeover event during the
Southampton Science and Engineering Festival (15/16 March 2024).
In order to get involved, please submit your Expression of Interest (EOI) to Dr Ronda Gowland-Pryde at [email protected] by 10:00 on Friday 5 January 2024 under the subject ‘Poetic Science 3 EOI’.
Please include your full name, contact details, job title, course/department/organisation and an
