Upcoming career opportunities and events – January 2024

As we are heading towards the second semester of the academic year, you might start thinking about life after university. Careers, Employability and Student Enterprise have a variety of opportunities and events available to you to help you explore your options and enhance your employability prospects.

Opportunities

Work experience: 

  • Student Innovation Projects
    Open to students studying any degree, Student Innovation Projects offer you the opportunity to gain industry experience by working on a real-life business issue put forward by local businesses or non-profit organisations. Working between four to six hours per week, over four weeks, you can develop the transferable skills needed for your future career. Find a variety of Student Innovation Projects advertised on MyCareer throughout January – be sure to check the closing dates for projects you would like to get involved in. 
  • UoS internships
    Applications are now open for UoS internships. Working alongside trusted local business and charities, Careers, Employability and Student Enterprise advertise a variety of paid, short-term work opportunities year-round. All roles are exclusive to University of Southampton students and are reviewed by the team to ensure they offer project-based and meaningful experience to help you to increase your employability and give you an insight into potential career paths.  Careers support: 

  • My Generation Career Coaching  
    Aimed at first generation university students, My Generation Career Coaching is a 12-month intensive support programme running throughout 2024 designed to help you achieve your career goals. Successful candidates will be coached by experienced consultants on everything from career planning to applications and interview techniques. Find out more about eligibility criteria and apply via the University website. Applications close on Sunday 14 January.  
  • The Student Enterprise Junction
    The Student Enterprise Junction, a brand-new space in the Sir James Matthews building in Southampton Guildhall Square, is now open. If you are interested in starting your own business and would like to find out more, or would like to work on your business alongside other student entrepreneurs, make sure you stop by The Enterprise Junction from Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:00.

Join this online information session to find out all you need to know about the Student Innovation Projects.  

Spring Careers Fair  

Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 February, 10:30-15:30, Building 40 (Garden Court), Highfield Campus 

With over 40 stands available each day, you can network with various global, national and local graduate recruiters, as well as third sector and charity organisations. The fairs are aimed at students from all degrees and disciplines, so come along to find out more about graduate roles, work experience and part-time vacancies.
