Become a School Governor volunteer

Are you interested in using your professional skills and knowledge to benefit your local community? The University has partnered with Governors for Schools, an education charity that supports local schools in finding skilled and committed volunteers for their governing boards. As a governor, you’ll utilise and develop your decision-making and leadership skills in a board-level role.

By becoming a school governor, you will:

  • Put your skills to practical use and see the impact of your decisions on young people’s education.
  • Help local schools overcome challenges to ensure a bright future for children in your community.
  • Work collaboratively with people from different backgrounds, challenging your own perspective and broadening your professional network.
  • Gain experience outside of your job description and skills you can bring back to work.
  • Benefit from peer support from your University through our new staff school governor network.

“I really enjoy being a school governor.  I get a real sense of satisfaction at shaping a successful school, a sense of achievement at overcoming the ever-growing challenges that schools typically face and I love being part of a diverse, committed community of volunteers.” – Adrian Dolby, Co-Opted School Governor Volunteer

To find out more about becoming a governor, please join our 1 hour Zoom webinar on Monday 26 February. The webinar will discuss what school governors do, how you can get involved, and how it has benefitted others from our University community in their professional and personal lives.
There are two webinar sessions:

Register for the 12:00 session here.

Register for the 18:00 session here.
