Exams and assessments can be a stressful time for everyone, and your wellbeing is our top priority. It’s important to take steps to look after yourself and know where to go for support if you need it.
To help, we have compiled a summary of free activities that you can participate in to boost your wellbeing, as well as the support that you can access. Check out the information below to see what’s available.
Events and activities
Zen Bus
Designed to help lower stress and anxiety levels, the Zen Bus will be parked up from 12:00-18:00 at Glen Eyre Halls on Tuesday 23 January and Wessex Lane Halls on Wednesday 24 January, and will have a mix of wellbeing-focused activities on offer:
- Gentle breathing techniques for stress, anxiety, and to help concentration
- Guided meditation for creativity, relaxation, and focus
- Relaxing sound baths
Sessions are 11 minutes long – you don’t have to book or live in halls to take part, so hop on board of the converted American school bus to learn how you can quickly bring some calm into your day.
Exam anxiety and stress management workshop, Thursday 18 January, 17:00-18:00
Delivered by wellbeing experts, this online workshop will help you learn more about managing your stress and anxiety, particularly focusing on university exams. Email [email protected] to register your interest.
Free head and neck massages
Feel more relaxed with a quick free massage. You can book a spot for the Hartley Library session on Wednesday 24 January from 12:00-15:00, or the Winchester School of Art Café session on Thursday 25 January from 12:00-15:00.
Be Active and Southampton Sport
Taking part in exercise can be a great way to reduce stress. The Be Active programme is back for another semester, with free sessions of squash, badminton, pickleball, and frisbee available. Check out the My Southampton app for full details on Be Active sessions.
Southampton Sport have a wide range of fitness classes available for free at Jubilee Sports Centre and Mayflower Gym until Sunday 4 February, including pilates, Zumba, yoga, and circuits. Visit the Southampton Sport website to find out more and book.
You Are More Than
Your Students’ Union (SUSU) have various activities for you to take a break with, including taster sessions for societies such as yoga, Zumba, and meditation, arts and crafts, food giveaways, cinema screenings, and therapy dogs. Check the You Are More Than programme on the SUSU website.
Support
Technology Grant
You can apply for a grant between £50 and £300 to go towards equipment needed for your studies – whether that is a new laptop or set of headphones. You may request one or more items of hardware or software in your application. Check if you are eligible for the Technology Grant and other financial support on the University website.
Tech Hubs for IT support
If you need any support with your device whilst working on your assessments, visit the don’t forget that the new Tech Hub in the Sir James Matthews study area. The friendly team can provide advice, repairs, and other IT support from Monday-Friday, 09:00-17:00.

Academic and research support
The Academic Skills Service are here to support your learning and help you enhance your skillset with a variety of resources on topics such as time management, critical thinking, maths, and academic writing, as well as drop-in sessions.

SUSU Advice Centre
