Introducing the University’s new Faith Staff Network

In a continued commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion, the University of Southampton proudly introduces the newly established Faith Staff Network, co-chaired by Dr Aiman Alzetani and Dr Gil Dekel.

This voluntary initiative, supported by the central Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) team, serves as a dedicated space for staff and PGRs of faith to meet, chat, and freely express and practice their beliefs. The network aims to empower individuals and represent the interests of different faith communities within the University to ensure an inclusive and tolerant environment. The network will also play a vital role in ensuring the accessibility and proper use of prayer and quiet rooms in line with the University’s inclusion policies.

Dr Aiman Alzetani commented: “This group is to help our staff to celebrate their faith and share their spirituality with others and voice concerns they may have about inclusivity in a safe space.”

Dr Gil Dekel said: “Embracing the roots of diversity, our Faith Staff Network symbolizes growth, unity, and shared purpose. Let’s nurture a community where physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual dimensions work harmoniously.”

As a member of the network, you can expect to attend networking sessions and events, connect with like-minded individuals, and engage in conversations for cultural exchange, intellectual discussions, and moments of celebration. Beyond events, you will have the opportunity to actively contribute to the network’s initiative, shaping the narrative of inclusivity within our university community.

If you’re interested in joining the network, please email [email protected].
