Upcoming changes to Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams, the university’s primary communication and collaboration tool, will be updated from 26 February 2024. This update affects all staff and students accessing Teams from their university Microsoft account, including university-issued devices, personal devices, CLS workstations and laptop loans.

What is changing?

The most significant change is that the updated version of Teams is faster and more secure. There are some other minor changes, including:

  • Changes to how to post announcements
  • Improved search function with the ability to filter by files, chats or channels
  • Additional layout options for channels and chats
  • Changes to how to spotlight a speaker during Teams meetings
  • Easy switch between and receive notifications from multiple accounts

Preview the new Outlook

Microsoft has added the option to preview a new version of Outlook. You can find this toggle in the top right corner of Outlook.

Microsoft will continue to refine this new version over the next few months, and you can easily switch between the two versions.
