International Women’s Day: Inspire Inclusion

International Women’s Day is celebrated globally to recognise and honour the achievements of women. This year’s theme is #InspireInclusion, calling us to understand and value women’s inclusion and for acceleration towards equality.

Inspiring Inclusion – with Rt Hon Justine Greening Wednesday 6 March, 18:00-18:50, online 

University of Southampton alumna and former MP, Rt Hon Justine Greening, joins us ‘In Conversation’ with Professor Jane Falkingham. 

Accelerating Change Together: Inclusion Workshop Friday 8 March, 12:00-13:30, online 

This workshop aims to go beyond discussions and inspire tangible actions. By understanding the importance of inclusion and recognizing the role of men as allies. 

Southampton Sport Sessions Friday 8 March and Saturday 9 March; various times and venues. 

Sign up for Southampton Sports’ free and dedicated sessions for women. From gym introductions, spin and pilates, try a new activity in a friendly space.  

Women and Lens-Based Media Friday 8 March, 18:00-19:00, John Hansard Gallery 

Join the John Hansard Gallery’s Senior Curator, Ros Carter on a guided tour of the galleries and Susan Beckett, Director of City Eye to discuss the importance of women’s film and media networks.

Joelle Taylor will be headlining an evening showcasing poetry from some of the UK’s best female writers. 

International Women’s Day Business Lunch with the New Forest Business Partnership Friday 8 March, 12:00-14:30, Balmer Lawn Hotel in Brockenhurst

Come along to find out what other women in business are doing in 2024 and celebrate their achievements together on International Women’s Day. You can look forward to networking over a drink and canapés on arrival, followed by a delicious two-course lunch and a charity raffle. This event is open to all staff.

Inspiring Inclusion: Staff Network Panel Discussion Thursday 14 March, 13:00-14:00, online 

Join members of various staff networks as they discuss their journeys and values that shape their work in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

  • The University of Southampton is a founding signatory of the Athena Swan gender equality charter and holds an institutional Silver award. The university is recognized for the role it has in promoting gender equality and address challenges across different disciplines.   • Listen to the 360 Degrees Podcast featuring inspiring stories from women including marine biologist, Francesca Trotman, Marcia Ore who shares her experience as a Black woman in the police force and Iona Bateman who shares how she navigates her career and studies after an injury.
