University Mental Health Day is an annual day to get the nation talking about student mental health and you can take part, no matter if you are a student or not.
This year it falls on Thursday 14 March and to mark the day and help support your wellbeing, we’re shining a spotlight on our support services, and the activities and resources available to you.
What’s happening
- Mobile Farm – Wednesday 13 March – Highfield Campus (outside Arlott)
Come along to The Nuffield Lawn, just next to B38, near the pond on 13 March where we are bringing a mobile farm to campus!
Whether you are having a difficult day, just need a break or simply just want to see some cute animals, this is the place for you. You can expect to meet a Shetland pony, two baby goats, two miniature piglets, and a lamb, and you’ll be able to take turns to brush the animals and take some photos.
No need to book – just turn up!
- Random acts of kindness – Wednesday 13 March and Thursday 14 March
Our student ambassadors will be distributing words of wellbeing at Highfield Campus throughout the day. If you happen to pass by, feel free to take a scroll for yourself or pass it along to someone else to brighten their day.
- Wellbeing Café – Thursday 14 March, 14:00-15:00 – Boldrewood Campus, Building 175 Café
Join the Wellbeing Team at their pop-up café for some mindfulness activities to help calm stress, network and learn more about the support available. No need to book but please contact The Student Hub if you have any questions.
Check out the My Southampton app to discover what else is on, such as free BeActive sessions and more.
Nurture-U
Nurture-U is a national research project that is finding better ways to support university students with their wellbeing and mental health. Nurutre-U involves an online mental health survey to complete which will help research into understanding and promoting student mental health and wellbeing in universities. The first stage of this year’s survey took place in semester one and you can see the results here. If you took part in the semester one survey, the follow-up for semester two will be shared soon, so do keep an eye out for that.
Nurture-U is also looking for students to take part in some valuable wellbeing research trials (run by Exeter University). If you are eligible to sign-up you can receive a shopping voucher for your participation. More info here.
