The University of Southampton in partnership with the University of Ghana is hosting a week-long in-person event from Monday 15 to Friday 19 April to explore equitable international partnerships.  It is taking place in the newly refurbished Sir James Matthews Building in Southampton City Centre.

This event has been funded by a Global Partnerships Award and this has enabled guests from other institutions in Kenya, Ghana and South Africa to join in and explore how to build and maintain equitable international research partnerships; how to develop and extend existing research partnerships; as well as take the opportunity to explore the potential for new research areas and relationships.

Each day will focus on a theme i.e. strategy and context, processes, people, research, and the view from the top.

The event aims to bring together ERE and Professional Service staff who have an interest in strengthening our international relationships, with a particular focus on working with African institutions. All ideas and levels of experience welcome.

The Summit will be opened and closed by Professor Mark Spearing – VP Research and Enterprise, University of Southampton, and contributions from:

  • Professor Felix Asante – PVC Research, Innovation and Development, and Mrs Cythnia Adu – Deputy Registrar Office of Research, Innovation and Development (ORID), of the University of Ghana
  • Clare Viney – Chief Executive, CRAC-Vitae
  • Dr Maggy Heintz – Executive Director, UK Collaboration on Development Research UKCDR
  • Representatives from the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and NIHR
  • As well as colleagues from the Research and Innovation Services, Library and Doctoral College, and supervisors and researchers at the University of Southampton.

This event is designed to open the wider conversation around research partnerships and their support structures and will enable us to develop interests in global, civic. Engagement and social-justice, as well as cultivate new international research relationships.
