As part of the University’s Sustainability Strategic Plan, we will soon publish an update to our Travel Plan, which sets out our approach for managing travel options to, from and between campuses. As we develop the document, we wanted to remind staff and students of the range of options available to support travel by a variety of modes.
Walking and Cycling
The pedestrian and cycle network in Southampton has seen significant improvements over recent years, with dedicated quiet or traffic-free routes across the city. Information on available routes is available via the Southampton City Council and My Journey Southampton websites.
Beryl bikes & Voi e-scooters are also readily available across campuses in Southampton, providing an alternative hire option for local journeys. staff and students can get a 20% discount on Voi e-scooters.
University support for cycling
- Staff have access to the university Cycle to Work Scheme, providing tax savings for bike and equipment purchase up to a value of £2,500.
- All university campuses have ample secure cycle storage, accessed via ID cards- to arrange access to a cycle store please contact the Transport team ([email protected]).
- Many university buildings also have showers and changing spaces. You can find their locations by selecting ‘showers’ from the POI categories list on our campus maps system.
Public Transport
The Unilink bus services connect both Southampton Central and Southampton Airport Parkway rail stations to University campuses across the City. The Unilink App provides live service updates, access to tickets (including discounted products for staff and students) and route information.
All Unilink passes can also be used on Bluestar services providing access to a network across (and beyond) Southampton, and the Breeze App provides an alternative tool that overlays both networks, to help with interchange between services.
Lift Share
The University has partnered with Southampton City Council in promoting My Journey Car Share as car share provider. Lift sharing provides an excellent opportunity to reduce commuting costs and parking demand, for those that are unable to travel via alternatives to the car.
My Reward and Recognition SharePoint Site has information about how to register with My Journey Car Share.
To support the development of the Travel Plan we will be conducting a survey of travel behaviour in May. Please do take the time to provide your feedback as this will help to shape the measures we take to support travel demands.
We are aware that there is an ongoing issue affecting SUSSED links when off-site, and are working to find a solution. In the meantime, please connect to GlobalProtect to resolve this issue, or navigate directly to https://sotonac.sharepoint.com/
