Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity are at the core of mathematics. Can you express this concept in an art form?
The purpose of this art competition is to remind us all that mathematics is open to everyone. We are looking at new ways to represent mathematics, from the point of view of Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity, in posters displayed in the Mathematical Sciences buildings for the interest and enjoyment of our students, staff and visitors.
All University of Southampton students and staff are invited to participate in this art competition. We want you to use your imagination and your artistic skills to produce art that links mathematics to Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity. Any art form is suitable, but only images can be submitted. These can be the art form itself, e.g. a sketch, a cartoon, a graphic poster, a digital image, a photo, or they can be the photo of a non-digital art form, e.g. a textile, a sculpture, a dance movement, whatever may have inspired you. Textual entries are allowed, but will be judged mainly on their visual appeal.
Submit your high-resolution artwork by Monday 29 April 2024 to enter.
Competition open to University staff and students. Selected artwork will be displayed.
Winners will be announced on 12 May 2024 with £200, £100, and £50 prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
