Faraday Tower demolition begins this week

Demolition will begin on the Faraday Tower this week, marking another major milestone in the redevelopment of our Highfield Campus and the delivery of our Estates Strategic Plan in support of our growth ambitions.

The demolition of this vacant building is the culmination of several years of planning and community discussion, with detailed preparations and infrastructure improvement works over recent months to ready the site and update colleagues and neighbours working and living close by.

The tower will be carefully and safely demolished over several months. Throughout this time, disruption relating to noise, vibration and dust will be mitigated and monitored to ensure they remain within regulated guidelines.

Plans and designs for a new building to be constructed on this site are currently under review as part of a wider estate master planning activity.

Executive Director of Estates and Facilities, Kevin Argent said:

“The demolition of the Faraday Tower is a pivotal and much-anticipated moment in the transformation of our Highfield Campus. It is the culmination of intensive planning and careful preparation by the project team, including to overcome some significant challenges on the site relating to existing underground infrastructure.

“I am delighted this significant milestone is finally here and I would like to thank everyone located on the western side of Highfield Campus for their ongoing patience and support.”
